ARIZONA ADMISSIONS AND ENROLLMENT

The school does not discriminate in its employment, admission, instruction, or graduation policies on the basis of age, race, handicap, creed, color, religion, financial status, ethnic origin, or sex. The school requires that each student enrolling in the Cosmetology, Aesthetics or Nail Technology course is at least beyond the age of compulsory attendance.

  • Graduated from High School OR
  • GED

The school does not accept Ability to Benefit students.

All applicants must complete an Application for Enrollment. Prior to starting classes, students must:

  1. Pay the applicable registration fee, which is refundable, if the applicant is rejected.
  2. Provide proof of age and secondary education.

Applicants for the Instructor Course must meet the above criteria and:

  1. Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  2. Have met all requirements for licensure as a cosmetologist.
  3. Be at least beyond the age of compulsory attendance.
  4. One year experience as a cosmetologist.

Students enrolled under any associate high school program must meet the admission requirements set out in the training agreement and provide:

  1. Proof of completion of the second year of high school or its equivalent;
  2. Proof that the student is at least sixteen years of age;
  3. Submit a complete student registration form and required fees through International Academy of Hair Design.

ARIZONA COSMETOLOGY COURSE OUTLINE

1600 Hours

DESCRIPTION: The primary purpose of the Cosmetology Course is to train the student in the basic manipulative skills, safety judgments, proper work habits, and desirable attitudes necessary to pass the State Board examination and for competency in job entry level positions in Cosmetology or related career field.

OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of the course requirements, the determined graduate will be able to:

  1. Project a positive attitude and a sense of personal integrity and self-confidence.
  2. Practice proper grooming and effective communications skills and visual poise.
  3. Understand employer employee relationships and respect the need to deliver worthy service for value received.
  4. Perform the basic manipulative skills including hair styling, shaping, bleaching, tinting, chemical reformation, scalp/hair conditioning, facials, manicures, pedicures and nail extensions.
  5. Perform the basic analytical skills to determine proper makeup, hairstyle, and color application for the client’s best overall look.
  6. Apply the theory, technical information and related matter to assure sound judgments, decisions, and procedures.

To ensure continued career success, the graduate will continue to learn new and current information related to techniques, trends, fashions, and methods for career development in cosmetology and related fields.

FORMAT: The clock hour education is provided through a sequential set of learning steps which address specific tasks necessary for state board preparation, graduation and job entry level skills. Clinic equipment, implements, and products are comparable to those used in the industry. Each student will receive instruction that relates to the performance of useful, creative, and productive career oriented activities. The course is presented through well-developed lesson plans, which reflect current educational methods. Subjects are presented by means of lecture, demonstration, and student participation. Students will demonstrate their knowledge of cosmetology theory and application ability through their completion of required practical and clinical activities. Audio-visual aids, guest speakers and other related learning methods are used in the course.

REFERENCES: Students follow Milady’s Revised Standard Textbook of Cosmetology and Standard System of Salon Skills. A comprehensive library of references, periodicals, books, texts, standard dictionary, dictionary of medical terms, standard textbooks, anatomy charts and audio/video tapes are available to support the course of study and supplement the students’ training. Students should avail themselves of the opportunity to use these extensive materials.

GRADING PROCEDURES: Students are assigned theory study and a minimum number of practical experiences. Theory is evaluated after each unit of study. Practical assignments are evaluated as completed and counted toward course completion ONLY when rated as satisfactory or better. Practical skills are evaluated according to text procedures, performance standards established by the state licensing agency, and set forth in the Practical Skills Evaluation Criteria. Students must maintain a theory grade average of 75% and complete of all written and practical requirements including the final written and practical examination with passing score prior to graduation. Students must make up failed or missed tests and incomplete assignments. Numerical grades are considered according to the following scale:

  • 91 – 100         Excellent – 4
  • 81 –    90        Above Average – 3
  • 75 –    80        Satisfactory – 2
  • below 75        Unsatisfactory – 1

Theory of Cosmetology & Arizona Law: Provides the student with a working knowledge of the laws of Arizona pertaining to cosmetology and the scientific study of the art of personal beautification. Includes sanitation, chemistry, anatomy, physiology and hygiene.
Monitor Duties: Salesmanship, ethics and salon management.
Chemical Hair Restructuring: Including permanent waving and chemical hair relaxing, specifically thioglycolate and sodium hydroxide.
Hair Coloring & Bleaching: Methods used in the art of tinting and bleaching hair.
Haircutting: The art of cutting and shaping various types of hair using different types of tools.
Hair Styling: The art and techniques of developing particular hair styles to individuals including pressing, thermal curling, and waving.
Facials & Makeup: The art of skin care and treatment including massage and physical and chemical depilatories.
Massage: The art of massage as an aid to skin care, nail care, and scalp treatments.
Nail Technology: The art of the care of the feet and hands to include manicuring, pedicuring, sculpture nails, extensions, wraps, overlays, and related services.
Shampooing: A study of the techniques and methods used in shampooing and the removal of chemical products, including conditioning, re-conditioning, and rinse applications.
Treatment of the Hair & Scalp: Recognition of hair and scalp disease, and those conditions which require medical treatments as well as those that can be treated by the cosmetologist. Methods of treatments and scientific brushing.
Electricity & Light Therapy: Use of electricity and lights as they pertain to cosmetology.

Miscellaneous: Lectures given by instructors and demonstrators on the uses of new products and tools will be given from time to time as needed.

The above hour requirements must be met by each student in each category in order for the earned hours to be accepted by the state licensing board for examination. The generous portion of creative preference hours is to be applied as needed in curriculum related areas or if a student desires to specialize in a specific area.



ARIZONA ESTHETICS COURSE OUTLINE – TEMPE

600 Hours

DESCRIPTION: The Esthetics Course offers a complete 600 hour course in the science and art of esthetics. The program is designed to prepare and educate each student in the fundamentals of the basic esthetic education set forth by the Arizona State Board of Cosmetology. It will also prepare each student for the practical and theory examination for an Arizona Aesthetic License. In addition, the course will incorporate the knowledge needed for entry level employment in salons, spas, or clinical esthetics.

OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of the course requirements, the graduate will be able to:

  1. Perform and meet the standards set by the school and the esthetic industry
  2. Perform technical, communication, and servicing skills
  3. Successfully complete the State of Arizona requirements to practice esthetics
  4. Exhibit the kind of professionalism necessary to gain and maintain entry level employment.
  5. Take and pass the Arizona State Board of Cosmetology Exam for Aesthetic licensing.

FORMAT: The clock hour education is taught within a set of structured curriculum that prepares students for state board examination, graduation, and entry level skills. The esthetic course encompasses both theory and practical education for each topic. Clinic equipment and products are comparable to those used in the industry. The course is presented through well developed lesson plans, which reflect current educational methods. Subjects are presented by means of lecture, demonstration and student participation. Instruction will be supplemented with visual aids, guest speakers, field trips and other instructional techniques.

REFERENCES: Students follow Milady’s Standard Fundamentals for Aestheticians textbook. A comprehensive library of references, periodicals, books and DVD’s are available to support the course of study and supplement the student training.

Theory of Esthetics, infection control, anatomy, physiology and histology of the body, diseases and disorders, principals and practices of infection control and safety, Arizona cosmetology laws and rules; theory shall be taught through out the course with each practical phase;

ARIZONA INSTRUCTOR COURSE OUTLINE

650 Hours

DESCRIPTION: The primary purpose of the Instructor Course is to train the student in the basic teaching skills, educational judgments, proper work habits, and desirable attitudes necessary to pass the State Board examination and for competency in job entry level employment as an Instructor or related career avenue.

OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of the course requirements, the determined graduate will be able to:

  1. Project a positive attitude and a sense of personal integrity and self-confidence.
  2. Practice proper grooming and effective communications skills and visual poise.
  3. Understand employer employee relationships and respect the need to deliver worthy service for value received.
  4. Perform the basic skills necessary for teaching including writing lesson plans, performing lectures and demonstrations, directing student projects, using library resources and audio-visual aids, conducting theory class instruction and measuring student achievement, supervising clinic operations, and maintaining required student records.
  5. Apply the theory, technical information and related matter to assure sound judgments, decisions, and procedures.

To ensure continued career success, the graduate will continue to learn new and current information related to techniques, communications skills and teaching methodologies to improve teaching skills.

Tuition Course Costs

Effective September 1st, 2008, our current tuition will be $16,095.00* for the Cosmetology Course of training..   This includes your books, uniforms and kit.   Additional uniforms and kit items can be purchased separately if desired.

Our current cost of tuition for the Aesthetics Course of training is $12,500*.   This includes your books, uniforms and kit.   Additional uniforms and kit items can be purchased separately if desired.

Our current cost of tuition for the Instructor Course of training is $4,100*.   This includes your books for training.   Additional jackets can be purchased separately if desired.
